squad log: 15: 9-11-25

Squad took flight again this week, chasing shade and logging steps with madd humidity! We had a guest join us this week and it really changes the energy, this group is so welcoming and they fit right in while adding their uniqueness to the collective.

After drop-offs we had a quick huddle to discuss what the day was going to look like, reviewed our Community Agreements and how we maneuver as a big group and the personal responsibility we all have to ourselves and our group. One flier came with a destination in mind for the day and pitched it… a NEW JAPANESE MARKET with so many prepared foods, ice cream, candy and grocery.

They have amazing Gyoza and スパム, 10/10 recommend!

The group was excited about some stops they knew were along the way and were happy to plan out the walk to get everyone where they wanted to go. Our stops included some usuals, like our favorite fun hangout on 2nd street, Toy Joy! We played with fidgets and talked about our interests and goofed off a lot! The store always welcomes us and our playful nature and we love that — they make us feel home.

We also happened upon a Mobile River Exhibit from the Colorado River Alliance. The folks running it spotted us and invited us to explore this really awesome interactive experience. We were all able to use the exhibit to calculate our personal water usage based on lifestyle choices like how long our showers are, or how often we do laundry.

We popped around to several spots for the group to get drinks, snacks or their lunch for the day. We definitely found our limits in hunger and based on distance, heat and our personal capacities and where we had to compromise to feed our bodies. The Texas heat can be such a wildcard, but it helps us plan our days better each time we gather and hit the streets on foot.

After lunch we made our way to a shady spot with fans and a comfortable lounge area. The facilitator grabbed and iced coffee and after a while, we all made our way to the teen lounge of Austin Public Library, we played games, talked and told lore and played instruments and hung out till it was time to head to our parting spot and meet parents. Another flight in books!
