Squad Log 13: 5- 22-2025
Our day began with a cool morning breeze while we draped ourselves around a common seating area, downtown; totally shaded by live oaks. We had some of our Squad Shirts made and flyers were signing shirts since some of us are leaving for summer and it was our last time together. We talked about how we wanted to spend our day and there were some things on our list we hadn’t done. After many weeks together, the squad took charge of their day with their map pulled up and we set off with a clear goal to be back to our inside location before the sun was too high.
Our walks are always so enjoyable, we talk about our various experiences with friendship, clubs and camps. We offer support and make plans with one another for future flights. We laugh a LOT and we engage with our community and take up space in our city. A true act of freedom.
Our first stop was iffy on the air conditioning but we made our way to the back of the establishment and found a great spot for us to sit and have our lunches, play some Grow Garden and Bingo and talk about our upcoming summer plans.
Our second stop was a shop we’d passed for weeks in the Mexican American Corridor, attached to a museum. We didn’t budget for a museum trip but we did spend quite a bit of time picking through the stickers, books and beads. There were instruments and fiber arts and small Mexican games for children. Our instigator even shared personal
childhood stories of playing “Toma Todo”, a spinning top game we found in the shop!
We made our way slowly, seeking shade by crossing streets and shuffling our way down sidewalks coveting the gusts of ice cold air from big corporate buildings and high end shops. We could not wait to get back inside and have a slow ending to the day.
The teen lounge of the Library was a great spot to park, play board games, read books, do a Tik Tok challenge or two and just hang out together! The time was coming to and end sooner than expected and we gathered our things with only a few minutes to get to our pickup spot.
